Yes, that’s right, you could go permanently bald! Most side effects occur because the chemotherapeutic drug affects normal cells, along with the cancerous cells. When chemo is discontinued healthy cells renew and replenish themselves as part of the healing process and the side effects go away. But as many as 15% of Taxotere patients never grow new hair, and have to live with permanent loss of body hair, sometimes all of it.

Taxotere Hair Loss

Side effects like taxotere rash and taxotere neuropathy are extremely uncomfortable but they clear up after the taxotere chemo treatment. However numerous studies have shown that, for as many as 15% of cancer patients treated with taxotere chemotherapy, their hair never grows back, and they are left with a permanent disfigurement–baldness. Some patients lose all body hair, including skin hair and their eyebrows. One Canadian victim said that when she goes out in public people stare because she has no hair at all. This woman has filed a lawsuit against Sanofi-Aventis, the French company who makes Taxotere. And she isn’t alone.

Many victims have filed Taxotere lawsuits, alleging failure to warn, an accusation that Sanofi could hardly deny since they warned European health officials of this side effect as early as 2005, but didn’t notify Health Canada until 2013 and the United States Food and Drug Administration wasn’t notified until 2015.
Allegations Include:

  • Negligence;
  • Strict Product Liability;
  • Breach of Express Warranty;
  • Breach of Implied Warranty;
  • Fraudulent Misrepresentation;

  • Fraudulent Concealment;
  • Negligent Misrepresentation;
  • Strict Product Liability for Misrepresentation;
  • Fraud and Deceit;
  • Extreme and Outrageous Conduct/Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress;
  • Willful and Wanton Conduct – Punitive Damages.

Many people would take permanent baldness as a condition of survival, if there were no other options available. However, Sanofi-Aventis knew that the chemotherapeutic drug Taxol is equally effective in treating cancer patients, and that this less-toxic drug does not cause permanent baldness.

Far from leaving patients to choose between Taxol and their toxic drug Taxotere, Sanofi published several bogus studies which claimed that Taxotere was superior in performance to Taxol. The FDA issued a warning letter to Sanofi in April 2009 stating that Sanofi was guilty of the federal crime of Misbranding, and ordering them to quit publishing the fake research studies.
